...and then there were 4!

Nash Robert Swinson was born at 4:47pm on Wednesday, 8-6-08. He weighed 7lbs 3oz and is 20.5 inches long. We are so in love! Cooper is a great big brother...we're going to have so much fun with 2 boys!!! Here is his birth story...

I went in for my 38 week appointment on Wednesday and my blood pressure was really high...just like with Cooper so they put me on the monitor for my NST and I was contracting every 5 minutes (I had been contracting every 10 minutes for almost 3 days, but overnight they picked up). She checked me and I was almost 4cm so she decided that with the high blood pressure that it would be best to induce. So I walked next door to the Birth Center at noon, called Clint and all my family and got my IV. The contractions were now about 3 minutes apart and pretty painful so I went ahead and got the epidural at 2:15pm. They were doing a scheduled C-section so I wasn't taking any chances with the anesthesiologist being busy. I had a really bad reaction to the epidural and my BP dropped to 80/20 and I got a shot of ephedrine to bring it back up. THAT was freaky...my whole body relaxed, got light headed, and couldn't see straight and the look the nurses gave me scared that crap outta me. After the shot kicked in and I started feeling better they said my OB would be in to break my water. At 3:15pm the doc came in and checked me...I was at 5cm so my body was going into labor on its own! She broke my water, which had meconium (lots!) in it and told me that I wasn't going to be able to have him put on my chest and they'd have to have the NICU pediatrician come in to make sure he didn't inhale any into his lungs. I was upset but we didn't really have a choice. My sisters, Mom, and Clint all just hung out while I tried to rest and at 4:15pm we called the nurses cause I felt like I had to push. The nurse came, checked me, told me I was at 10cm and went to get the OB. She got there 10 minutes later and everything got set up. I pushed through 4 contractions and the Pediatric nurses and doc walked in right as he was born. He was COVERED in meconium (my OB told me later that he had probably pooped 1-2 days before, and it was DEFINITELY time for him to come out). She suctioned him out and they put him on my chest! I was so relieved, I know it sounds little, but that was one of the most important things for me (him being put on my chest). They took him over to the warmer and he screamed the entire time! We did it all WITHOUT pitocin! I was so relieved. He got 8/9 on his apgars and is perfectly healthy. He weighed 7lbs 3oz and 20.5 inches long. He has light brown hair and blue eyes and is so content all the time. He's got THE longest finger and toes I've ever seen. He is nursing like a champ and is really chill...we've been lucky so far! Give it 2 weeks and I'm sure we're in for it. :)

Now, for a TON of pictures :)
